Painted on location in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, this original 5x7 inch watercolor captures the quiet presence of Andrew Wyeth’s studio, nestled among trees and rolling fields.

This is the first of my new series of watercolors of artists spaces and studios. 

Standing where Wyeth worked, I was struck by how unassuming the building feels, a simple white house almost hidden within the landscape. That humility is exactly what drew me in. The soft greens, warm ochres, and layered autumn reds reflect the surrounding fields and trees that shaped Wyeth’s vision and inspired some of the most iconic American realist paintings of the 20th century.

This piece was painted with a light, expressive touch to echo the stillness of the property while allowing the color to breathe. Andrew Wyeth has always been one of my all time favorite artists. His persistence and his dedication to a sense of place in his art is powerful. I was driving back from a conference and stopped off in the Chadds Ford area to do this watercolor (and a few other pieces still to come).
