This original watercolor captures a quiet, reverent corner of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston—home to John Singer Sargent’s dramatic masterpiece El Jaleo. Rather than depicting the famous painting itself, this work focuses on the surrounding architectural alcove: the Moorish arches, cool green-blue walls, and the hushed space that frames one of the most powerful works in American art.
I created this watercolor and ink painting while visiting the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Mass. Sargent is one of my favorite artists and I like the nook that the painting is set in all while being surrounded with objects that respect the visual beauty of Spain. Loose figures and gestural marks hint at the energy of El Jaleo, while the surrounding architecture grounds the scene in calm observation.
Perfect for art lovers, museum enthusiasts, and collectors who appreciate painterly interiors and cultural landmarks. A meaningful keepsake for anyone who loves Boston, the Gardner Museum, or John Singer Sargent.
