Study After Sargent – El Jaleo | Master Study
Description:
This expressive oil painting is a personal study of John Singer Sargent’s iconic El Jaleo located in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, created as part of an exploration into Sargent’s dynamic brushwork, dramatic lighting, and masterful handling of form. Painted by an artist with over 30 years of experience and more than 70 gallery and museum exhibitions, this piece reflects a deep dive into classical technique through a contemporary lens.
The bold composition captures the theatrical energy of the original while revealing the painter’s hand showcasing the intentional brushwork, rich shadows, and luminous whites that give the figure life and motion. This master study serves both as a tribute to Sargent’s genius and as a powerful standalone work of art.
